2005-05-16 -- DETROIT - On the frenetic and tense finale of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation airing May 19 with director Quentin Tarantino at the helm, two new "cast members" will make their debut - steel gray metallic GMC Yukon XL Denalis introduced as the top-rated show's new Mobile Analysis Units. In addition, beginning May 16, exclusive behind-the-scenes video content allowing CSI fans to take a look at the making of the season finale will be available on CBS.com, all sponsored by GMC. Fans will also have the opportunity to watch exclusive interviews, take a virtual tour and learn about the Mobile Analysis Unit and can enter for a chance to win a new 2005 Yukon XL Denali.
"The critics have always characterized the show as hip and cool. We wanted a hip and cool ride for CSI and we got it in our XL Denali Mobile Analysis Units," says Carol Mendelsohn, executive producer for CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

The Yukon XL Denalis will take center stage at the crime scenes, sharing camera time with the CSI team that draws more than 30 million viewers to their sets each Thursday night.

"This high-profile association with a mega-hit show such as CSI not only gives us wonderful exposure to those not familiar with the brand, but also validates for our current owners the purchase they made." said Steve Rosenblum, GMC marketing director. "There's a certain cool factor for starring in the top-rated show on television."

"With the Denalis, it's more than simply product placement; it's product integration," says Steve Tihanyi, general director, Marketing Alliances and Entertainment for General Motors. "These vehicles will kind of become characters; there's a reason behind their presence and they will be participating in many of the key crime scenes in the show."

A stainless steel "mobile command center" -- sitting in the space normally occupied by the Yukon XL Denali's third-row seating -- contains three drawers and storage units on each side to hold crime scene kits and various collected items. An illuminated Plexiglas tray slides out and allows investigators the opportunity to examine evidence, maps or anything integral to the crime scene.

"There were two main objectives we wanted to meet with the look of the vehicles," said Tom Thomas, transportation coordinator for CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. "One was to really light them up, because the show is shot at night, when most of the crimes are investigated. Second was to give them an even more rugged, off-road appearance to better complement the rough desert terrain in which they would be featured."

The Mobile Analysis Unit Denalis also include:

* A chrome brush grille guard, cable reel and red and blue LED lights for the grille
* Strobes in the headlights and taillights
* Two halogen lamps that adorn the roof of the vehicle
* A bank of four PIIA bulbs (high intensity LEDs) to flank each side
* Emergency lights in the side mirrors and back windows
* KVH satellite dish to provide Internet capabilities
* Wider wheel wells and fender extensions
* 17-inch Goodrich all-terrain tires
* Custom-made six-spoke polished wheels
* Chrome tubular assist steps

"We worked on the Denalis, tweaking and adding little touches right up until filming in April," said Thomas. "The fine-tuning was stressful, but it paid off when the vehicles showed up on set."
